As I sit here on the beach, at my place in the Florida Keys, I ask myself “why after 38 years do I continued to take time in the Florida Keys”? There is only one reason “ it’s always the same but it’s always different”! Growing Impressions of discovery, relaxation, sun, water, palm trees, fishing, nightlife,kayaking, and people!. Anywhere up and down the Keys is home. I'll walk you through the varied faces and impressions of many of the Keys.
It’s like the tides, you know they always come each day, high and low. But they change times from day to day and Key to Key. You have to go and check it out. A Florida Key Vacation is like the tides. Like a fine wine, the Florida Keys offer a consistency that we all expect but, at the same time, there are mood variations daily, weekly, and monthly. There are pretty much all of the activities one would expect year round. There are, however, seasonal fluctuations in migratory habits of marine life and birds, flora and fauna changes, and water and temperature changes. The 110 miles, 40 plus bridges, and 1700 islands are a National Marine Sanctuary in the only subtropical zone of the USA. We are talking superlatives in every sense. Whether it is fishing Islamorada, known as the sport fisherman’s capital of the world, or visiting the only coral reefs within the continental USA, a Florida Key Vacation is always waiting for you to etch your new impressions!
The most important thing to know about a Florida Key Vacation is that these Keys are a very different place, and have their own “island time” and their own “island mentality”. 4 million plus vacationers each year make a pilgrimage to these azure blue/green warm waters. There is a multitude of activities and reasons why I, as well as millions of others, come back to be entertained and participate in activities all up and down the Keys. Any of the main 40 plus islands, joined by bridges, will offer a microburst of discovery, awe, and enchantment.

Now you may be uncertain as to where to start your Florida Key Vacation. I prefer to start by car at the top of the Keys and work my way down, like most. Yeah, some people fly directly into Key West or Marathon. Some actually sail or motor boat to a desired location. Any way you choose, generally you will find plenty of overnight places to stay. Restaurants, fishing, boating, camping, and RV’ing are all common up and down the Keys. Each of the major islands, which I refer to as “the anchors” of the archipelago, have similar activities but, each has distinguishing characteristics.
For example, A Florida Key Vacation will take you through the 5 main “anchors”, Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Big Pine, and Key West.

The overseas highway US 1 by car , Rv, or motorcycle will take you deep into a world of subtropical marine life, wild life, eco systems, resorts, foliage, activities, sun rises and sun sets, relaxation, night life and more, that will forever etch the Conch Repubic’s indulable character in your blood. You will become one of those whom people refer to as having “gone native”, or “gone bamboo”, or “gone off the rails”, or maybe “gone off the chart”.
Like an old friend, “why do I continue to take a Florida Key Vacation”? I know my reason , finding new impressions each year, and hope a few of my brief impressions will help to encourage you to go out and gather your impressions to form your reason to vacation in the Florida Keys.
